Targeted at secondary-school science teachers, the ELLS Workshop on Metagenomics will explore the novel approaches to study organisms in a community.
Metagenomics involves the direct sequencing of genomes of a community of microorganisms inhabiting the same environment. Because it overcomes the limitation of growing microbes in pure cultures it si providing exciting new insights into the world of microorganisms.
Metagenomics research has potential applications in many different fields: human health, climatic change, renewable energy, and will impact the lifestyle and choices of generations.to come.
Through hands-on laboratory protocols and interactive multimedia tools, participants will have the chance to analyse genome sequences present in different sample environments.
